Individual Psychotherapy

Individual psychotherapy involves you and I working together to create more adaptive and fulfilling ways of being as you go about the dailiness of life. The way I work assumes that each human being is unique, so each therapy will be distinct, as it is tailored to the type of psychic pain, character, symptoms, level of resilience, goals, coping skills, and so on that each person brings along. I understand the goal of psychotherapy to be increased freedom from from maladaptive patterns and an increased capacity for pleasure and spontaneity. The frequency of our meetings will range from monthly to twice a week, and it is not uncommon to change frequency, up or down in sessions, as needed.

Psychoanalysis

Psychoanalysis can sound intimidating. To some extent, the biggest difference between psychotherapy and psychoanalysis is the frequency of sessions. Psychoanalysis involves meeting 3-5 times per week for an unknown amount of time. The increased frequency allows for a sustained, deep exploration of one's psychic life, with a concentration on integrating unconscious maladaptive cognitive, emotional, and relational patterns with conscious awareness. The goal of this work is to move from automatic patterns that are disruptive to one's well-being toward increased agency in regard to one's relational, behavioral, cognitive, and emotional life. Psychoanalysis isn't for everyone and rightfully so, yet it can be a transformative experience for many. Because of the very real demands on time and money that this treatment entails, the fee will be renegotiated with the increased frequency in many cases.
